Inspire visitor for January
Sophia Warren was our visitor in January.
Sophia told us that she wanted to be a Social worker when she was at school but she was not encouraged to by her secondary school
teachers. Sophia explained that when she was at primary school, her favourite subject was English.
When she grew older, she thought she would go to University but instead, she took a gap year and went to work in a bank. She started of as a bank teller but over the years, she was promoted to being a bank manager and also an area manager. Some of the challenges she faced was because she was a black woman working in Management in a bank and that was unusual at the time. However her job also allowed her to get a mortgage at the age of 26.
Sophia said the most money that she had managed was £1,000,000 for the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. Sophia is now the Vice Chair
Governor at St. Mark’s.
